Augustine, theologian and bishop is attributed with the saying, "The Gospel of John is deep enough for an elephant to swim, yet shallow enough for a child to wade through." John's themes include, light-darkness, "I am" statements, indepth stories and revelation. The birth narrative doesn't show up in John but a cosmological birth occurs with John 1:1-5, "In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. ...In him was life, and the life was the light of all people. The light shines in the darkness, and the darkness did not overcome it." (notice the connection to Genesis 1). Come with your thoughts about the scriptural definition of Word!
An introduction to John, lesson titles and Lesson 1 will be given out-February 4th
